Critic of President Is Found Fatally Shot
From Times Wire Reports
A prominent critic of Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev was shot dead, the victim’s lawyer said.
Ryspek Akmatbayev was killed as he left a mosque on the outskirts of Bishkek, lawyer Ryspek Nogayev said.
Akmatbayev, an ex-prisoner who served time for assault, was acquitted this year of murder but convicted of setting up a criminal gang and possession of illegal arms. He won a seat in parliament, but as a result of that case, election officials had prevented him from taking up the post.
