Eleven people were arrested over the weekend during a multi-agency investigation into a Ventura County auto theft ring, officials said.
Operation V-Tec netted suspects in Port Hueneme, Oxnard, Santa Paula and Ventura as officers swept through 10 locations in those cities, said Steve Reid, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
The suspects are believed to be street racing enthusiasts who stole cars in order to obtain newer parts for their vehicles and then sold the remaining parts, authorities said.
The sweep came after nine months of investigation, Reid said. The suspects concentrated on Japanese cars, he said.
