Lebanon has found the remains of Michel Seurat, a French history researcher whom Islamic militants kidnapped in 1985, a police official said.
Seurat’s bones were found during excavation at a rest stop on the road to Beirut airport in the capital’s southern suburbs. DNA tests have confirmed it was Seurat, the police officer said.
Seurat was kidnapped May 22, 1985. His kidnappers claimed on March 5, 1986, that they had killed him. But hostages who were later freed said Seurat died of hepatitis or cancer.
