A fight at a Lancaster party turned deadly Sunday when one of the participants fired into a crowd, killing a 15-year-old boy and wounding another young man, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.
There were about 100 people at the party when the shooting occurred about 2:40 a.m. in the 45500 block of North Gadsden Avenue, according to sheriff’s and county fire officials.
Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said it wasn’t clear what the initial fight was about, but that one of the people involved went to his car and returned with a gun, opening fire.
The boy who died was identified as Paul Hoffman of Lancaster, said county coroner’s spokesman Richard Hanna. The other victim, who was described as being in stable condition at a nearby hospital, was not immediately identified.
Whitmore said investigators do not know the identity of the shooter or what kind of car he was driving.
