BUZZ CLUBS
Cathouse is ready to purr again
It all started on a spooky Tuesday night in October of ’86. Cathouse, as it was called, was supposed to be a dance club, but quicker than you can say kerrang, it turned into one of the most decadent rock ‘n’ roll hotspots this town had seen. Such bands as Guns N’ Roses, Pearl Jam, the Black Crowes and Warrant played Cathouse, which was located at Osko’s on La Cienega before moving to the Probe on Highland. In the heavily tattooed crowd, you’d find the likes of David Bowie, Joan Jett and members of Motley Crue, Motorhead, Ratt and Skid Row. Well, slip on your vinyl pants because the Cathouse is coming back. Headbanger’s Ball/Cathouse host Riki Rachtman is teaming up with original Cathouse DJ Joseph Brooks for the mother of all Cathouses, set to take place in October at the Key Club on the Strip. Expect an all-star band with some big names.... Social Hollywood’s grand opening on Tuesday brought out Taylor Hicks, Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Foxx, Nicole Richie, P. Diddy and Charlize Theron, who hosted the event at the former Hollywood Athletic Club.... Marky Ramone is spinning an independent music set at Beauty Bar on July 4. Recommended attire: Ramones T-shirts.... Spotted: celebutante Kristin Cavalleri on Tuesday at Element in Hollywood. The “Laguna Beach†starlet kicked it with pals from “The Hills†after the hot T-Mobile party at the Palladium.... Speaking of that T-Mobile bash, such party pals as Eva Longoria and Jessica Simpson made their way to the Brent Bolthouse-thrown gala, where folks dined on popcorn balls and cotton candy and played carnival games. Among the guests playing in the pink sandbox were the Duff sisters, Jamie King, Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus, Paris Hilton and Tony Hawk.
You set the beat
It looks as if promoter Michael Sutton is going for a two-fer: Starting this week, he’s hosting a weekly Friday night dinner at Memphis and its after-party at Element.... Those who like their dance music tempered with Middle Eastern spices should check out pop singer Emo Dagger at the Viper Room in WeHo tonight.... To the scenester at Hyde who asked me for a house music referral, check out Shag’s new Saturday night promotion, which promises pure house music all night long.... Lovely for Sundays: Katana on the Strip’s new Red Sun BBQ garden party, which takes place in the patio and offers scorpion bowls for two.... Too Short was in the house at teen R&B; artist Chris Brown’s BET bash at the Adidas store on Melrose on Monday. Among the notable guests were Pit Bull, Nick Cannon, Chingy and Lil’ Mo.... Sunday’s post-premiere party at Tengu in Westwood for the slick flick “The Boys’ and Girls’ Guide to Getting Down†had DJ Steve Aoki sharing turntable duties with Steve Smith from Dirty Vegas.... Bolthouse teams with VH1 the last Wednesday of each month at LAX nightclub for “I (Heart) the ‘90s!†Count on DJ Scott Oster to spin Madonna, Nirvana and Snoop. Gin and juice optional.
