Curbing prosecutors

Alan Hirsch makes several good points in his article on possible causes of overzealous prosecutors and offers a helpful suggestion to begin to address this problem (Opinion, June 21).
In addition to this helpful prescription, we should explicitly recognize that the proliferation of laws we have allowed places huge discretion in the hands of prosecutors, tempting them while at the same time jeopardizing our liberty.
We should be more judicious about the laws we adopt, seek actively to expunge laws that are outdated or not enforced and vigorously enforce the laws we keep.
