A female Los Angeles police officer suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was in critical condition late Saturday after a shooting near the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, police said.
The incident also left one suspect dead, said Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Mike Lopez. A second suspect was taken into custody.
Lopez said the shooting occurred about 10:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of La Salle Avenue, near Leighton Avenue.
He said the officer was shot in the right arm and left armpit, and taken to California Hospital Medical Center. At least one of the shots went into her lungs.
“They’re doing everything they can to keep her alive,” Lopez said.
Neither the officer nor the suspects were identified.
