Torture and death in L.A. County Jail

Re “A Death in Lockup,” May 28
I was appalled to read about the torture and death of Ramon Gavira in Los Angeles County Jail. As outrage mounts around the world over torture at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo and secret CIA prisons, now we know that right here we have deadly, homegrown torture.
The county Board of Supervisors, grand jury, district attorney and U.S. attorney need to pursue coordinated investigations and prosecutions to hold everyone involved accountable, from the top to the bottom, in this gross violation of human rights.
