at Minnesota 6, Detroit 4: Michael Cuddyer hit a two-run triple in the Twins’ six-run eighth inning. Jeremy Bonderman’s balk let the tying run score in the eighth and Luis Castillo drove in the go-ahead run with a groundout. Bonderman (11-5) was breezing past Twins ace Johan Santana, who couldn’t find the strike zone and lasted only 5 1/3 innings in one of his shakiest outings of the season. But in the eighth, Minnesota capitalized on several choppers and two errors. Pat Neshek (1-0) got one out for his first major league victory.

at New York 4, Tampa Bay 2: Johnny Damon hit a pair of home runs and Mike Mussina (13-3) won his fifth straight decision. Mussina has not lost since June 15. Kyle Farnsworth pitched a scoreless eighth and Mariano Rivera worked the ninth for his 26th save in 28 chances.

at Baltimore 8, Chicago 7: Javy Lopez’s bases-loaded single in the ninth inning off Bobby Jenks capped a two-run comeback for the Orioles. Jenks (2-3) had converted 19 straight save opportunities and was an American League-best 28 for 29 this season.

Seattle 7, at Cleveland 3: Jose Lopez and Raul Ibanez each had two-run singles with two outs in the ninth to help lift the Mariners. Cleveland lost for the 11th time in 15 games since July 14 and went 3-6 on a nine-game homestand. J.J. Putz got out of a jam for his 22nd save, getting Grady Sizemore to hit into a game-ending double play with the bases loaded.

at Texas 15, Kansas City 2: Michael Young had four hits and a home run, Mark DeRosa added four hits and four RBIs and the Rangers ended a season-worst six-game losing streak. DeRosa had a two-run double and a two-run single in his third start this season at shortstop, all games when three-time All-Star Young was the designated hitter. Young is 12 for 16 in those DH starts, and 22 for 42 in his career.
