Reward Is Offered in Hit-Run Death of Boy

Authorities offered a $5,000 reward Thursday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the hit-and-run driver who fatally struck an 8-year-old boy on the Fourth of July.
Felipe Ortiz was lighting fireworks next to his father in the 2000 block of West Washington Avenue when a car hit the boy and didn’t stop.
“At this point, I just want justice for my son,” Araceli Ortiz, the boy’s mother, said at a news conference with Police Chief Paul M. Walters. “Somebody out there knows who did this.”
Witnesses described the vehicle as a white minivan. Though Santa Ana police visited every address within a 1 1/2 -mile radius to which such a vehicle was registered, they said, none of the leads led to arrests.
