From Times Wire Reports
Five Chilean military officers were found guilty of crimes related to the deaths of 45 teenage soldiers whose training exercise was hit by a blizzard.
Military Judge Juan Arab found Maj. Patricio Cereceda, who in May ordered the ill-equipped recruits to hike into bad weather, guilty of manslaughter and dereliction of duty.
Cereceda received a 5-year prison sentence, and four other officers were found guilty of dereliction of duty and received suspended prison sentences.
Relatives of the victims said the sentences were too light.
