Confining hens

Kudos to The Times for bringing the cruelty of battery caging of hens front and center (Feb. 1). We Americans are addicted to convenience and profits at the expense of fragile, helpless living creatures that do not deserve torture. Battery caging is torture. As Gandhi said: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
