Eagles Release Pinkston, Detmer
The Philadelphia Eagles released quarterback Koy Detmer and receiver Todd Pinkston on Wednesday and re-signed quarterback A.J. Feeley, who led the team to a 4-1 record in the last five games in 2002 when Donovan McNabb and Detmer were sidelined by injuries.
Pinkston, a target of intense criticism from Eagles’ fans in recent years, was made expendable earlier this week when the team sent a draft pick and reserve linebacker Mark Simoneau to the New Orleans Saints for Donte’ Stallworth.
Pinkston, 29, missed all of last season because of a torn Achilles’ tendon.
Detmer, 33, started five games for the Eagles in 1998 and has since been the backup quarterback and primary holder for kicker David Akers. But the Eagles signed Jeff Garcia in the off-season.
Feeley, 29, was released earlier this week by San Diego. He was traded to Miami after the 2003 season for a second-round draft pick that the Eagles used on wide receiver Reggie Brown.
