Teenager Dies in Fall From Beachside Cliff
A 17-year-old boy died early Saturday after he fell off a cliff near Point Fermin, fire officials said.
A friend called 911 about 12:31 a.m. to report the fall, which occurred among rocky, steep cliff faces.
Fifty Los Angeles firefighters, two helicopters and two fireboats, as well as ground crews that had to negotiate treacherous, narrow trails down to the rocky beach in the dark, were called to the scene, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The boy was declared dead at the scene. Officials did not release his name or hometown.
Officials said that it wasn’t clear what caused the fall, but that it appeared to be accidental.
