Phillies Get Past the Reds

David Bell completed Philadelphia’s comeback, hitting a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning Friday night for a 11-10 victory over the Cincinnati Reds that tightened the playoff race.
The Phillies took the field knowing that Houston had already lost, providing a chance to close in on first-place Houston in the wild-card race. The Phillies moved one game behind the Astros with eight to play.
Chase Utley started the rally by hitting a three-run shot off David Weathers (7-4), making the score 10-9. Ryan Howard walked and Bell homered.
Atlanta 4, Florida 3 -- The Braves moved a step closer to their 14th straight division title, using a four-run eighth inning at Atlanta. Josh Beckett extended his scoreless streak against the Braves to 19 innings this season, leaving after the seventh with a 3-0 lead.
Chicago 5, Houston 4 -- First baseman Derrek Lee helped the Chicago Cubs play spoiler at Wrigley Field, making an impressive defensive play to stall a late Astro rally and preserve the victory.
San Francisco 7, Colorado 6 -- Barry Bonds, who had his streak of four straight games with a homer stopped, drew a key walk during the Giants’ rally from four runs down in the eighth inning at Coors Field.
Milwaukee 9, St. Louis 6 -- At Milwaukee, Lyle Overbay hit a tiebreaking double as the Brewers sent Chris Carpenter (21-5) to his first loss in more than three months.
San Diego 5, Arizona 3 -- Khalil Greene homered and drove in three runs at Phoenix to help the Padres (77-76) move back over .500 with their sixth win in nine games.
New York 5, Washington 2 -- Carlos Beltran’s three-run homer in the top of the 10th inning lifted the Mets.
