Convicted Ex-Sheriff Is Teaching at University

A former Bergen County sheriff convicted of selling jobs and promotions and of shaking down vendors for campaign contributions has landed a job teaching criminal justice at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania.
Joseph Ciccone, 45, began a temporary one-year term teaching three courses in criminal justice and police organization and administration, university spokesman Doug Smith said.
As part of Ciccone’s 2001 sentence, he was barred for life from applying for or accepting any public jobs.
Smith said he could not offer information on Ciccone’s hiring or whether the university knew that he had a criminal record.
