Jose Cancela, Patrick Noonan and Khano Smith scored in the second half, helping New England defeat the MetroStars, 3-1, Saturday at Foxborough, Mass., and advance to the Eastern Conference championship.

The Revolution needed to win by at least two goals to advance on aggregate scoring after losing to the MetroStars, 1-0, on Oct. 22.

Youri Djorkaeff scored for the MetroStars in the 59th minute. Cancela tied it in the 68th minute, Noonan scored in the 73rd and Smith in the 83rd.

Colorado 2, FC Dallas 2 -- Joe Cannon had 14 saves and made a diving stop of Roberto Mina’s shot in the fifth round of penalty kicks at Frisco, Texas, and the Rapids advanced to the Western Conference final.

The Rapids won the first shootout in MLS playoff history, 5-4, after the teams tied, 1-1, in regulation and traded goals in the first of two overtimes.
