Delegation Could Not Deplane, U.S. Says
From Times Wire Reports
A U.S. congressional delegation was not permitted to leave its plane after arriving in Venezuela, a spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Caracas said.
The president of the airport denied the accusation, saying U.S. Ambassador William R. Brownfield entered the plane briefly, and then it departed.
The group, which included Reps. Tom Lantos (D-Burlingame) and Diane Watson (D-Los Angeles), had been slated to meet with government officials, Brian Penn, the spokesman, told Globovision television.
