Can the Angels Afford Not to Sign Weaver?

Jarrod Washburn had a 4.64 ERA last year, while earning nearly $6 million, and John Lackey had a 4.67 ERA. Last time I checked, those were not very good numbers. Unless Bill Stoneman is confident the Angels can score five or six runs every time they pitch, I think the Angels are seriously overestimating the “depth†of their pitching staff, which allows them the arrogance to demand 48-hour signing ultimatums to a young pitcher who in a year or two could easily be their best starter.

Thanks, Jered Weaver. You saved us fans a bundle of money by not signing with the “Anaheim†Angels. Twenty-five starts times $50 a game equals $1,250 per season per couple.

Now we can see you play free at recreational league games.
