Man Sentenced in 2002 ChoicePoint Case

A federal judge in Los Angeles sentenced Adedayo Benson of Encino to 66 months in federal prison for his part in the theft of personal data from ChoicePoint Inc. of Alpharetta, Ga., prosecutors said.
Nigerian-born Benson, 38, and his sister, Bibiana Benson, 39, were arrested in 2002 and pleaded guilty to felony charges. Prosecutors said Bibiana Benson posed as a real estate broker claiming to have a legitimate need for ChoicePoint data. Others, including Adedayo Benson, used that data to open fraudulent credit accounts.
The case received no public attention until ChoicePoint revealed last month that a similar scam exposed the records of as many as 145,000 people.
