Hard-Liners Push for Referendum on Pullout

The rebellious executive arm of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s Likud Party voted to urge its deputies in parliament to seek a referendum on Sharon’s plan to withdraw from the Gaza Strip.
The Central Committee ballot pushed through by rightist hard-liners opposed to the plan was nonbinding, and Sharon’s aides said it would have little effect since there is no majority in parliament to pass any referendum legislation.
