Earthquakes Win to Catch Galaxy

Dwayne De Rosario scored in the 88th minute to lift the San Jose Earthquakes to a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids at San Jose on Wednesday night.

The Earthquakes (6-3-6) won their third game in a row to pull into a tie with the Galaxy for second place in the Western Conference. The Rapids (4-10-2) lost their second in a row.

De Rosario, who will be joining Canada for the CONCACAF Gold Cup next month, took a pass from Brian Mullan, beat defender Nat Borchers and scored past former San Jose goalkeeper Joe Cannon for his second goal of the season.

Mullan returned to San Jose’s lineup after sitting out seven games because of an ankle injury.

Chicago 4, D.C. United 3 -- Jesse Marsch and Ivan Guerrero scored on penalty kicks, and the Fire (9-6-2) edged United (5-5-4) at Chicago.

Marsch scored the tiebreaking goal in the 39th minute to give Chicago a 2-1 lead. Thiago made it 3-1 two minutes later, blasting the ball past United goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

Leading, 3-2, Chicago’s Guerrero converted a penalty kick in the 61st minute to push the Fire’s lead to 4-2.

Columbus 1, Kansas City 1 -- Jose Burciaga Jr. scored in the 76th minute to lift the Wizards (5-3-7) to a tie with the Crew (4-8-2) at Kansas City, Mo.

Mario Rodriguez scored the Crew goal in the 69th minute, after Simon Elliott’s deflection off the right post.
