Re “Bush Defends Iraq Policy,†June 29: In his speech, President Bush mentioned Sept. 11 five times. He did not utter the phrase “weapons of mass destruction.†Does anyone even remember the reason we supposedly went into Iraq?

The sacrifice of our young in Iraq is not worth it. This is a war that we can never win. Let’s keep in mind that Iraq had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks. We should bring our troops back home and start impeachment procedures immediately.

What kind of fools does Bush take us for? Saddam Hussein and Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Stop shedding U.S. and Iraqi blood for your own personal vendetta!

I saw President Johnson on Tuesday night telling us how well things were going in Vietnam, or was I mistaken?

The truth is clear. If we don’t fight the war on terror in Iraq, we will fight it here at home.

Bush keeps changing the reason we attacked Iraq. I guess if he can’t convince anyone using reason No. 1, he will just try reason No. 2.

How are we ever going to get out of Iraq without a draft, losing more of our GIs and wasting billions of dollars on corrupt contractors. Nothing Bush read in his spin, I mean speech, gave the slightest clue.

Bush gave a great speech. Maybe the Democrats will listen to some common sense.

When is Bush going to remove his rose-colored glasses and accept the truth? How many more American troops is he willing to sacrifice for his stubbornness? It is time for all of us to demand more of him than upbeat speeches. Enough already!

Why did the president give Osama bin Laden so much credence in his speech? Does Osama know everything? Why even mention him in regard to Iraq, even if he said something about Iraq? Why is what he says more important than solid, thinking Americans, like our senators and congressmen? Sir, you give him too much credit.

The war in Iraq has gone on long enough. Our sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are dying for reasons that are still vague at the very least. The United States has enough problems of its own here at home. Bring our people home.

We got into this war based on lies -- the wrong way. It’s time to get out the right way.

The first step is to realize that the Bush policy is out of touch with reality.

The president’s speech was an awesome Independence Day present. Americans everywhere need to put aside their complaining and stand behind the cause of freedom. Bush is doing what he said he would do: protecting the American people.
