A brush fire near Palm Springs singed 200 acres and threatened 15 homes, three ranches and a fish hatchery Tuesday before firefighters contained it at 6 p.m.

Officials expect the blaze to be under full control tonight.

Nearly 175 firefighters from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection in Riverside County and the U.S. Forest Service battled the fire, which started about 12:30 p.m.

Four air tankers doused water on flames near Cecil Drive and Whitewater Canyon Road, 10 to 15 miles north of Palm Springs.
