Majority Says Iraq War Won’t Make U.S. Safer

More than half of Americans now disagree with President Bush’s argument that the war in Iraq will make the United States safer from terrorists, a Washington Post-ABC News poll found.
Almost three-quarters of the randomly selected 1,002 adults interviewed by phone Thursday through Sunday said the number of casualties was unacceptably high, and a record 58% said the war wasn’t worth fighting.
The poll found that 52% of Americans believed that the war in Iraq hadn’t made the U.S. more secure from terrorist attacks, while 47% said it had. The poll’s margin of error was described as plus or minus 3 percentage points.
