Man Arrested After Fatal Shooting in Alley
Insulting words directed at a woman apparently led to a fight among several men downtown early Saturday that left one dead and another charged with his killing.
The victim and a woman were walking near 3rd Street and Pine Avenue when a group of men made comments about her, said Jackie Bezart, a Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman. A fight broke out, and the men allegedly chased the woman’s friend down an alley, where one of them fatally shot him in the chest, she said.
Police arrested a man after the 2:45 a.m. shooting, Bezart said. His name and age were not released, nor was the name of the 23-year-old victim.
