Oscars to come: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded ABC the U.S. broadcast rights to its annual Oscar telecast through 2014.

Opera director: David Gockley, general director at the Houston Grand Opera for the last 33 years, will become general director of the San Francisco Opera on Jan. 1, replacing Pamela Rosenberg, who announced in June that she was choosing not to renew her contract. She will continue as an advisor through 2006.
