Parliament Confirms New Prime Minister
Parliament confirmed Yulia Tymoshenko as Ukraine’s prime minister and endorsed her government’s program aimed at fighting poverty and corruption and preparing the nation for European Union membership.
“We have passed through a long election path,†said Tymoshenko, 44, one of the most visible figures in the protests during Ukraine’s election crisis in November and December.
After the vote, Tymoshenko smiled broadly, then immediately walked over and hugged President Viktor Yushchenko, who called her his “political partner, political friend.â€
