Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania and Raul Usupov, deputy governor of the Kremo-Kartli region, died from a gas leak at Usupov’s home, Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili said in a live broadcast.
Security guards broke through a window when they heard no signs of life inside several hours after the prime minister arrived, Merabishvili said.
“It is an accident,” he said. “We can say that poisoning by gas took place.”
A gas heating stove was in the main room of the house. Central heating is scarce in Georgia.
