Army Kills 2 Suspected Rebels During Raid

Sri Lankan soldiers shot and killed two suspected Tamil rebels during a search operation in the island’s volatile east, where a pro-rebel parliamentarian was assassinated a day before, the Defense Ministry said.
A military spokesman said the two had tried to attack the troops who shot them.
During a Christmas service Sunday, unidentified gunmen shot and killed pro-rebel parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingham, 71. The government and rebels blamed each other.
