An A.P. Like Dear Old Dad?
Fourteen years after his father won the Hollywood Futurity, A.P. Warrior will try to do the same in the Grade I today at Hollywood Park.
A son of A.P. Indy, who won the race for trainer Neil Drysdale and jockey Eddie Delahoussaye in 1991, then eventually became a horse of the year, A.P. Warrior will be seeking his third win in five starts in the 1 1/16 -mile Futurity.
Owned by Stan Fulton and trained by Eoin Harty, the dark bay colt, purchased for $1.3 million as a yearling, hasn’t raced since winning an allowance race by four lengths at 3-10 Nov. 4.
Garrett Gomez, who rode A.P. Warrior to his four-length maiden victory in his career debut at Hollywood Park on July 17, is back aboard the colt as Patrick Valenzuela chose to stay with the unbeaten Your Tent Or Mine.
Owned by Anthony Speelman and trained by Drysdale, Your Tent Or Mine, a son of Forest Camp, has won two sprints by a combined three lengths, one the Hollywood Prevue on Nov. 19.
Completing the field are Bob And John, Old Thunder, Norfolk Stakes winner Brother Derek and three maidens, Kobayashi, Ercu Egret and Jealous Profit.
