Man Pleads Not Guilty to Burglarizing Star’s Home

A 48-year-old homeless man has been charged with breaking into the Malibu home of actress Jennifer Aniston, authorities said.

David Hesterbey pleaded not guilty to felony burglary Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Van Nuys.

Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said Hesterbey allegedly scaled a 9-foot fence at Aniston’s rented beach home Thursday, walked into the residence through a door and fled when two of Aniston’s employees confronted him. The actress, star of the former long-running TV series “Friends,” was not home.

Shortly afterward, sheriff’s deputies found Hesterbey on the beach, and the two employees identified him as the intruder.

According to prosecutors, Hesterbey took a cab from Santa Barbara to Aniston’s house, then refused to pay the $250 fare. Robison did not know how he obtained the address.

In addition to the felony burglary charge, the district attorney’s office charged Hesterbey with petty theft for the cab fare. That charge, to which he pleaded not guilty, is also a felony because he has a prior conviction, Robison said. If convicted on both counts, Hesterbey could face up to six years in state prison. Bail was set at $70,000. His next court date is Sept. 7.

Hesterbey’s previous conviction occurred in Santa Barbara County, but details were not available, officials said.

Aniston also starred in the films “Along Came Polly,” “The Good Girl” and “Rock Star.” She was married to actor Brad Pitt until their divorce this year.
