Ex-Soldier Who Killed Briton Gets 8 Years
From Times Wire Reports
A former Israeli soldier was sentenced to eight years in prison for fatally shooting a British activist, the first time anyone serving in the military has been convicted of killing a foreigner during more than four years of Israeli-Palestinian violence.
Wahid Taysir Hayb, a member of Israel’s Bedouin Arab minority, was convicted by a military court in June for shooting pro-Palestinian activist Thomas Hurndall in the head in the Gaza Strip in April 2003.
Witnesses said Hurndall, 22, was helping Palestinian children avoid Israeli tanks.
