Drive-time cellphoning
Hats off to Alison Manheim, whose piece about cellphone use and abuse (“Stuck? Don’t Call Me,” Aug. 4) hits the nail on the head. How many friends do I have in L.A. who only ever call me when they’re driving? Manheim is right, it’s an insult.
Friends in New York City, meanwhile, commute by foot and train to their offices and leave unintelligible voice messages as they bounce along Manhattan streets, fading in and out of the roar of diesel engines and squad car sirens.
