Acquisition of Brown, Profit Is Set

After a lengthy league-mandated moratorium was lifted Tuesday, the Lakers officially acquired forward-center Kwame Brown and swingman Laron Profit from the Washington Wizards for forward Caron Butler and guard Chucky Atkins.
Profit, 27, signed a one-year guaranteed contract, giving the Lakers five players in their backcourt. Profit, 6 feet 5, has played parts of three NBA seasons and averaged 3.2 points in 42 games for the Wizards last season.
The Lakers also signed guard William “Smush” Parker to a one-year contract that is partially guaranteed. If Parker, 24, is still on the roster in mid-January, his contract becomes guaranteed. The 6-4 Parker has averaged 5.6 points in a two-season career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns.
Other Laker guards under contract are Kobe Bryant, Sasha Vujacic and rookie Von Wafer.

Laker draft pick Ronny Turiaf left Stanford University Medical Center on Tuesday, a week after having open-heart surgery to repair an enlarged aortic root. Turiaf, 22, is expected to make a full recovery but will not play next season.
