Conservancy Benefits All of Los Angeles
Thank you for your article on the battle to save the Baldwin Hills Conservancy (Oct. 22). My husband and I live in the neighborhood of Hahn Park. We regularly walk to the park and enjoy the trails. We are proud of the Baldwin Hills Conservancy, for the foresight it has shown in planning for the future to improve the quality of life for all in L.A. -- and up until this point not subject to political whims.
Whether Angelenos have ever used the park or not, they should be aware that everyone benefits from the habitat it creates for the birds, beasts, flora and fauna that exist there. The Baldwin Hills Conservancy Project, and more particularly Hahn Park, is within a 20- to 30-minute drive of much of the city.
The lack of park space in minority neighborhoods is a compelling argument for the conservancy’s work to continue. If the governor does away with the Baldwin Hills Conservancy and ignores the sincere need for livability in one of the largest population centers in the United States, it will result in a legacy lost and wasted forever.
