Search to Resume for Chatsworth Hiker
Searchers in Kern Country spent another frustrating and fruitless day Sunday combing Mt. Pinos for a Chatsworth hiker missing since Wednesday.
They plan to resume efforts this morning to find Robert Komenda, 64, last seen by his family before he left his home for a day hike on the 8,831-foot mountain, Kern County sheriff’s deputies said.
Searchers found Komenda’s white Mercedes-Benz near a trail head soon after beginning their efforts Thursday, but they have come across few clues since.
Komenda has hiked in the area for years, deputies said, and was believed to be in good health.
Storms, however, have left snow on the mountain, and search helicopters were grounded Saturday because of poor weather.
