Big Pick Six Carry-Over

The best thing that could have happened to today’s race card at Hollywood Park was when first-time starter and 45-1 longshot Warison won Sunday’s final race.

The shocker guaranteed a pick six carry-over and turned a lackluster program into one that people around the country will be paying close attention.

The carry-over is a two-day record $708,235 and it can almost be guaranteed an additional $4 million to $5 million will be bet chasing that money.

Half of the races in the sequence are on the turf, including the day’s richest contest, a $58,000 allowance at 1 1/16 miles.

Royal Place, second to Buddy Gil in an allowance race on the Santa Anita main track on April 16, is the likely favorite. The 4-year-old Out Of Place colt has a win and two seconds in six starts on the Hollywood Park grass and has dramatically improved since joining the Rafael Becerra barn. In six races for the trainer, he has been worse than second only once -- when he finished seventh while overmatched in the Santa Anita Handicap.

Race of the day: Hawksbill, a 4-year-old son of Silver Hawk, will make his New York debut for trainer Bobby Frankel in the seventh at Belmont Park. Jerry Bailey will ride the chestnut in the $46,000 allowance at 1 1/4 miles on the turf.

One for the road: Desperado Kid looked good winning in his first time out for trainer Patrick Byrne and will stretch out to 1 1/8 miles in the fourth at Churchill Downs, a $49,100 allowance.

Exotically speaking: A pick six using Mango Escapade and Aclevershadeofjade in the third, Fortunate Event, Gottahavemilk, Princess Godiva and Western Blondy in the fourth, Sweet Lips in the fifth, Spring Festival and Jewel Of The Year in the sixth, Wixoe Express and Royal Place in the seventh and the Global Empire entry in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/42. Money: Previous day/meet total: $21.40/$234.40. Total money bet: $346.
