Where have you been lately?
I like to go to exotic places. I can’t understand the language so I’m transported into this new space where I have to learn intuitively. I want to be impressed by smells, sights, colors and sounds. This was my first trip to Thailand. Some of my earlier work has concerned indigenous altars, so I wanted to see the temples. I enjoyed the ruins too. The ruins seem to have a ghostlike thing and a grandeur. I went with a small tour. We took river trips and went to the water market and palaces outside of Bangkok.
Discovery: There’s a museum in Bangkok, Jim Thompson’s House. Thompson was an American known as a father of Thai silk. It’s filled with antiques, and there’s a beautiful garden. There’s a wonderful shop there that sells Thai silk.
