Anyone harboring a James Bond fantasy can now rent the perfect backdrop: the Palm Springs modernist estate featured in the 1971 film “Diamonds Are Forever.� The renowned Elrod/Lautner estate, named for the original owner interior designer Arthur Elrod and for the home’s architect, John Lautner, is built into the boulders on a ridge overlooking the city and the San Jacinto Mountains. The 7,000-square-foot impeccably furnished abode has five bedrooms, the famous concentric living and entertaining area, the retractable ceiling, the 25-foot-high retractable glass door/wall and the pool where Bond frolicked with Bambi and Thumper in the movie.

The 2-year-old company describes itself as a private hotel agency, specializing in providing all the amenities of a fine hotel to guests staying in private residences.
