Two U.S. Soldiers Killed in Battle With Afghan Fighters
WASHINGTON — Two American soldiers were killed and two others wounded Thursday in a battle that also left at least five attackers dead in central Afghanistan, the U.S. military said.
In a brief statement, the U.S. Central Command said that the American soldiers, accompanied by troops of the Afghan National Army, were attacked by “anti-coalition militia†in a village near Tarin Kowt in the southern province of Oruzgan.
The Americans were not identified by name or military unit, pending notification of relatives.
The wounded Americans were evacuated to Kandahar airfield for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not disclosed.
The two soldiers’ deaths raised to 114 the number of U.S. troops who have died in the war in Afghanistan.
