Jacobson Leads Utah Past Brigham Young
Nick Jacobson scored seven points in the final 4:27 at Denver to lead Utah to a 54-51 victory over Brigham Young (21-8) in the Mountain West tournament semifinals Friday night.
The third-seeded Utes (23-8) will play Nevada Las Vegas (19-11), which beat Colorado State, 80-73, to reach the final for the fourth year in a row.
WESTERN ATHLETIC -- Top-seeded Nevada defeated Rice, 67-59, in the tournament semifinals at Fresno. The Wolf Pack (22-8), which won its sixth in a row, will play second-seeded Texas El Paso (24-6), which beat Boise State, 85-73.
MID-AMERICAN -- Top-seeded Western Michigan (25-4) reached the championship game with an 87-77 victory Toledo at Cleveland. The Broncos will play second-seeded Kent State, a 66-56 winner over Miami of Ohio.
SOUTHLAND -- Texas San Antonio (19-13) beat Stephen F. Austin, 74-70, at San Antonio to earn an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
WOMEN
WESTERN ATHLETIC -- Louisiana Tech (26-2) advanced to the final in Fresno with a 74-47 victory over Texas El Paso (15-13). The Lady Techsters will play Rice. The Owls defeated Tulsa, 55-42.
