Ugandan children on fundraiser tour
The Children of Uganda, a troupe of 20 Ugandans ages 6 to 18 who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS, make two local stops this week on their tour of the United States.
They will appear at Pepperdine University in Malibu today at 8 p.m. Information: (310) 506-4522.
The company will repeat the program at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach on Friday at 8 p.m. Information: (562) 985-7000.
Led by Frank Katoola, the troupe presents stories, legends and the history of East Africa through dance and song. The troupe has toured the U.S. biennially since 1994. The goal of the current tour is to raise $1 million to support other orphans in Uganda, as well as to increase awareness of the effect of the devastating disease, particularly upon children.
