Lawmakers Support Airline Bid for Wayne-D.C. Route
Orange County’s congressional delegation has signed a letter urging Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta to approve Aloha Airlines’ application for nonstop flights from John Wayne Airport to the nation’s capital.
The letter was signed by Reps. Ken Calvert , Christopher Cox, Gary Miller, Dana Rohrabacher, Ed Royce and Loretta Sanchez, according to a statement released by Cox.
“Aloha’s plan to offer direct flights between Orange County and [Washington] promises to deliver significant benefits for air travelers,†said the letter, whose signers all travel that route frequently.
“Aloha’s application also promises to introduce more competition to the D.C. area.... And with round-trip fares as low as $278, Aloha’s service out of [Washington] can also help reduce fares.â€
If approved, the route would provide the only nonstop service between Washington and Orange County.
The flights to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport would begin July 1.
