Government Help
James Galbraith’s June 27 commentary, “Keeping It Real for the Voters,†recommends government-driven solutions to problems ranging from job creation to healthcare. History shows that higher taxes and more government programs stifle growth and individual creativity (Sweden), and unfettered capitalism leads to material transgressions (Enron).
Government encouragement through the tax code and other means helps guide the private sector, and its profit motive helps find efficient solutions.
