Dennis Clontz, 51; Playwright’s Works Were Widely Produced

Dennis Clontz, a playwright whose works received more than 50 productions nationwide, died Monday of lung cancer at his home in Glendale. He was 51.

Clontz’s play “Generations†was one of two runners-up to August Wilson’s “The Piano Lesson†in the American Theatre Critics Assn.’s annual competition for best new play produced outside New York. The Colony Theatre of Los Angeles presented the premiere production in 1989.

In 1985, a double bill called “Two By Clontz†was presented at Actors Alley in Sherman Oaks, where Clontz was playwright in residence.
