It’s Home Sweet Home for Thunder’s Echo
In 10 starts at Santa Anita, Golden Gate Fields and Bay Meadows, Thunder’s Echo is winless.
The 4-year-old Swiss Yodeler filly has fared much better at Hollywood Park, the track where she is housed in the barn of trainer Craig Dollase.
Owned by a partnership, the California-bred has won two of three on the main track in Inglewood and was third in her loss.
After finishing third of five in an allowance race May 2 at Bay Meadows, Thunder’s Echo is back at her favorite location in tonight’s seventh race, a $50,000 allowance at 1 1/16 miles.
Facing only four opponents, Thunder’s Echo will probably try to lead all the way under apprentice rider Mick Ruis. She hasn’t run around two turns since she was fourth in a turf race -- won by stakes winner Valentine Dancer -- more than a year ago.
The field is completed by Harbor Blues, who has lost 17 of 18, Essence, who beat a weak field of maidens May 13, You I Love and Dolly Wells, who was fifth in her U.S. debut on April 16 at Santa Anita.
Race of the day: Hawksbill, who scored impressively in his first start at Belmont Park for trainer Bobby Frankel, will seek a repeat in today’s eighth race, a $48,000 allowance at 1 1/4 miles on the turf. Jose Santos will ride the 4-year-old Silver Hawk colt for Juddmonte Farms. The race will also mark the first start on grass for Indy Dancer, the once-promising A.P. Indy colt who has lost seven in a row.
One for the road: Rough Draft looked good winning by daylight May 28 and can score right back for trainer Merrill Scherer in today’s eighth race at Churchill Downs. Robby Albarado will ride the 7-year-old Notebook gelding in the $15,000 starter allowance at 1 1/16 miles.
Exotically speaking: A pick four using Ballistic Angel, Spinning At Dawn and Brocky’s Dream in the fifth, Iflookscouldkill in the sixth, Thunder’s Echo and You I Love in the seventh and Five Rivers, the Sevenmiss entry and Frosty Breeze in the eighth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 4/99. Money: Previous day/meet total: $18.20/$561. Total money bet: $724.
