TV Ratings Slip as Edwards Fails to Lure Viewers
Vice presidential nominee John Edwards’ speech Wednesday night failed to stir up much interest among network TV viewers, with average ratings slipping 11% from Monday’s live prime-time coverage of the Democratic National Convention.
NBC led the pack Wednesday with 4.2 million viewers during the 7-8 p.m. hour (Pacific time), trailed by ABC (4.1 million) and CBS (3.9 million), according to Nielsen Media Research.
The three networks averaged 4.5 million viewers Monday; they did not air convention coverage during Tuesday’s prime time.
Overall, the networks’ ratings were off 20% compared with the 2000 Democratic convention.
