Jillions of -- OK, 6 -- Jeers for ‘Gigli’ in the Razzies
Adding insult to the injuries already inflicted by film critics and its dismal performance at the box office, “Gigli†was declared the worst movie of 2003 at the 24th annual Razzie Awards on Saturday.
And, boy, did the 617 voting members of the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation really hate it. They also tagged the film for worst actor (Ben Affleck), worst actress (Jennifer Lopez), worst screen couple (Affleck and Lopez), worst screenplay (Martin Brest) and worst director (Brest again).
“Gigli’s†six wins topped the five that Madonna’s “Swept Away†captured last year but were one shy of the Razzie record held jointly by “Showgirls†and “Battlefield Earth.â€
The awards, handed out in Santa Monica by Razzies creator John Wilson, are announced this time of year as a reminder of the films and performances that fell well short of Oscar contention.
Sylvester Stallone got the Razzie -- his 10th -- for worst supporting actor in “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over,†and Demi Moore took worst supporting actress for “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,†which was also named worst remake or sequel.
“The Cat in the Hat†won in a new category: worst excuse for an actual movie (all concept/no content).
