Brothers Rescued After 3 Nights Near Mt. Baldy
Twin brothers who were lost in whiteout conditions for three nights near Mt. Baldy were rescued Wednesday.
Richard Encinas of Rancho Cucamonga and Robert Encinas of West Covina set out Sunday morning for a hike in the San Gabriel Mountains.
The 44-year-old men called that night to say they were planning to spend the night in the Icehouse Saddle area off Mt. Baldy. When they hadn’t returned by Tuesday afternoon, the wife of one alerted authorities. On Wednesday morning, they were still missing.
Teams that set out to scale the mountain Tuesday night were forced to turn back because of whiteout conditions. On Wednesday, rescuers set out again and found the brothers.
